When we moved here, we had heard from our neighbor about occasional mountain lion sighting in this region way back when. We heard about a few sightings in the Menlo Park / Los Altos area over the last couple of years. A few weeks back, one had to be shot in Berkeley. Coincidentally, right next to Chez Panisse in the area known at the Gourmet Ghetto. That one must have developed a taste for fine cuisine! Yesterday a mountain lion left the remains of a deer in the neighborhood school yard. The California mountain lion population must be making a comeback.

Wherever deer are found, mountain lions generally will follow."
We have deer by the masses in our neighborhood, and they are always to be found under our deck in the summer. Let's see if a mountain lion strolls up to our deck one of these days. We will probably have to think twice about leaving the doors to the deck open at night next summer.
